A Visit to the Vet

Tank napping the after noon away before I whisked her off for her appointment. She's wearing an e-collar that I made - I think the pink suits her! We couldn't find the one we bought. This one works just fine, even if it is held on with tape...

Tank's ear and a little patch on her belly are showing signs of what seems to be an allergic reaction to something. It was all bumpy, crusty and scabbed over. Ear mites and fleas were ruled out, but she's on Revolution just to be sure. As a result of this, she has a secondary infection. An anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-biotic ointment was prescribed and needs to be applied twice daily for three weeks. My girl was a trooper! She had to get her ear swabbed and her cells micro-scoped. I'm surprised she didn't leave anyone bleeding and was actually pretty calm about it all. Wait, except for that one time while I was waiting in the examination room while they took her to another room to swab her ears. All I heard was the most loud, angry and fierce growling, howling and hissing. I got in "mom" mode thinking WTF are they doing to my baby!?!?! 10 minutes later, an assistant returns her to me saying how there was a dog. Poor thing, I hope Tank got him good! ...juuust kidding. Animal violence is bad. Aside from that, her nose has been peeling. I was told that this could be a sign of an upper respiratory infection. Something about feline herpes (which are not contagious to humans) and how almost all cats have it. Like how we get colds. Apparently it usually comes up when an immune system is weak. Like, "Hey guys, her immune system is wonky, lets have a herpes party!" Brutal! You know what's even more brutal?

The bill. I should also mention how the vet suggested a biopsy on Tank's skin and to do this, she'd have to be anesthetized and while she's napping to extract a tooth (the gum part was inflamed a bit). I don't know if the vet was taking me on for a ride or what, but I'm going to get a second opinion before shelling out a couple grand and having Tank put under. Oh and the Dr. also suggested maybe switching her food. Which one? Made by who? Hill's (Science Diet) of course. Ew, no thanks. First four ingredients on the package was: Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Brewers Rice, Whole Grain Corn. I don't think so. Don't even get me started! Chicken by-product?!? The first 5 ingredients in Tank's current food is: : Chicken, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, ground white rice. It's less than $20 for 25lbs. Seriously, all I saw were dollar signs over there. Why do all vets recommend food by Hill's? *stressed*
