I grew up eating Fillet O Fish sandwiches from McDonalds. That is not to say that I had them regularly, but they were a favourite of mine! Never mind beef burgers. Fish was where it was at and paired with tar tar sauce and a slab of processed cheese...my little 5 year old self would polish a sandwich off all by my lonesome. I haven't had one in a long, long time though. If I ever do go to Micky D's, it's a Jr. Chicken burger for me. But a trip there is pretty rare to begin with.
The original plan was to cook up a nice steak and potato dinner, but after preparing the marinade and opening the package of steak, a rancid smell crept up my nostrils. Upon closer inspection (my poor nose!) I concluded the the meat had spoiled. I'll be honest- it smelled of death. Think, decomposing fungal feet. Yeah, totally gross and I apologize for making you read that. :)
So it's half an hour to dinner, what does one do?? It was obvious. Head down stairs and pay a visit to the chest freezer. That thing is packed full of goodies and emergency foods, aka. frozen foods. I picked up a box of High Liner frozen breaded fillets and tossed it in the oven. It was either cod, haddock or sole...I can't remember. White fish, is all I can recall. It was good though and it only took about 20 minutes! I grabbed some burger buns, cut up some sharp cheddar, made a quick tartar sauce* and chopped a handful of iceberg lettuce. BAM! Dinner, just like that. Of course, I made a side of garlic brussles sprouts and we can't forget baked fries! I mean, the oven is on anyways. You might as well make some to drown in vinegar! Which is exactly what I did. It made for a yummy dins and I got to eat something that I haven't had in probably a decade!
*I added a squirt of sriracha sauce to give it a little zing!
