Look at that monster of a sea creature! That, my friend is an Alaskan king crab fresh and still flickering it's little whiskers. Since these guys are "in season", grandma treated us to an annual giant crab dinner at a local Chinese restaurant.
Thanks grandma!

The staff brought him out to say hello |
...and so I could snap photos of him to show you! |
King crab legs steamed in a ginger/garlic/scallion sauce with glass noodles |
Everybody getting a nice generous portion |
Yum! Each piece is cut open to make it easier to consume. The meat was sweet, tender and perfectly cooked! |
While the rest of the crab was being prepared, we ate this delicious dish of deep fried salt & black pepper fillet eel with taro fries! |
Of course, there were vegetables. |
Then more crab! This was the body meat, cut into chunks and stir fried with Maggie sauce and garlic. Yum! |
Fried quail! Super moist and full of flavour. One of the best dishes of the night. |
So we had fried eel. Apparently that was only half of it and this was the second half. |
I'll let you guess which half this was... It was steamed in a black bean and citrus peel sauce. Not my favourite! |
Ta Da! I've been looking forward to this dish since the beginning. |
Crab fried rice with a divine Portuguese coconut curry sauce, served in the king crab shell. Mmm...!! |
For dessert, there were fried sesame rice balls stuffed with lotus paste (taste like caramel to me). |
We also had a soupy dessert with sweet potatoes in it. |
What's next?
Giant lobster?
The dinner over all was fantastic. The desserts were okaaaaay, but in all honestly, I barely had room for it anyway. Oh, and we look the crab shell home and it wasn't even my idea! We washed it thoroughly and dried it. It's pretty in an ugly kind of way. I was thinking of making it into a costume for Tank. Ha ha ha :)
