Little Dead Thing

If you're easily grossed out, you might be better off skipping this post!

As I was unloading the groceries from the trunk of the car the other day, I just so happened to peek underneath the giant pine tree beside the drive way. There's a good 5 to 6 feet of cleared branches under there so one could easily walk right under it. Well, I peeked in there and saw this little guy, hanging lifelessly on the smaller branches. Sure it was a little gross, but it was still quite chilly and I guess that helped with it's...preservation of what's left. My next thought was to snap a couple of pictures so I could show you.

You're lucky!

I wonder what happened to it.  The poor thing wasn't even full grown, but as you can see he's face and body are completely mangled! I hope he died quickly. Doubt it though.

Okay the next photo is pretty close up, so be warned.

See that white stick like bit on the top left corner? I'm thinking that's the spine. I didn't prod around to find out. Chances are it got eaten by raccoons when it's mama wasn't around!  Clearly this baby squirrel wasn't very tasty; look at all the meat still left on it's thigh.

Hungry yet?
(Daryl Dixon just popped into my mind as I wrote that. Whoo hoo, Walking Dead! Norma Reedus, yes please!)

By the way, I just Google searched to see if raccoons do indeed eat little animals, because surly something so furry and cute wouldn't kill and eat other furry and cute animals! Well, after watching a video of one eating an adult grey squirrel, it's safe to say that the answer is yes and they make crunching on bones sound like a human eating nachos.

I looked for it the next day, after thinking about how I'd like to wrap it up in metal mesh, bury it and wait a year to collect it's bones....but it was gone the next day. That, and the fact that I probably wouldn't go out to buy the mesh and digging up dead animals is kind of weird. it probably wouldn't have happened. Probably.

I'll be truthful though, I've thought about digging up my mice and hamster before!

Are you creeped out yet?
I'm just curious.

Happy Thursday! I hope you didn't barf! xo
