Review: Revlon Selects, Lash Potion Mascara & Color Silk

As part of the Revlon Selects program, I was sent their new Lash Potion mascara and their new ColorSilk hair dye. The box arrived about two weeks ago, looking plain on the outside and totally unassuming. But once I sliced opened the tape, I found these two products hidden in a flurry of black crinkle stuffing! Such a nice surprise, I love getting things in the mail.

I've been using Revlon's Lash Potion mascara for nearly two weeks now and being a big fan of Maybelline mascara's, I unfortunately cannot say that this product has changed my mind. The "triple groove wand" takes a little getting use to, but once I got past working with it I found that the formula was very thin. Being so, meant that building up volume took a little more time than usual and instead of using two or three coats, resulted in needing one additional maybe even two. Keep in mind that my lashes are long and curled but quite thin. I think that someone with naturally thicker lashes would benefit more from this formula and brush.

Next, staying power. I tested with nothing on my face or eyes, just the mascara. I was not impressed, as I found an hour or so later or wearing Lash Potion that I ended up with raccoon eyes and flakies on my cheeks. Yuck! It seems to hold up better when I'm fully made up, but that's also because I wear a smokey eye a lot of the time so the melting is barely noticeable.

I like that the mascara is a rich black, pretty good at de-clumping and it's packaged prettily, but that's about it. I think I'll stick to my Maybelline Colossal and Volum Express or even Cover Girl's Lash Blast. Sorry Revlon, maybe next time!

The second item in the package I received was Revlon's ColorSilk ammonia free permanent hair colour, which comes in eighteen different shades. I received deep rich brown, which is close to my natural hair colour, but because my roots grow in darker than the of my hair, I use dye it occasionally to even things out a little. I also have like, one or two grey hairs somewhere in the mix.

I have not used this product yet, so stay tuned for a review once I do!
