Technically summer has ended and it's currently autumn, but the weather's been a bit funny and there are still days that are 20C or higher! This means that my garden has yet to die off, which means I can put off on pulling them out of the ground. I don't have much of a autumn crop anyways except for my kale, so I plan on simplyletting Mother Nature do her thing and when she decides the summer tomatoes and peppers need to go, I'll tank em out. Until then, I'll continue harvesting whatever I can! This means raspberries (which are growing like they on 'roids), the last of my cherry tomatoes, a few chili peppers, windowsill basil and cat nip.
Funny, I never knew I had cat nip growing in the garden. I don't believe I had scattered seeds, but one morning I was looking out the window and noticed one of the neighborhood kitty cats ravaging greenery at the side of the house! When she was done, I went out to see what goodies she had been nibbling so passionately on. I tugged off a leaf and rubbed it between my fingers to release the oils. One sniff and I recognized it's pungent minty-ness, aka. Nepeta cataria. What a fab surprise! I took a snippet back for Tank and she pretty much died and went to heaven, rolling around in her fresh cat nip, chewing it to bits, drooling like some kind of wildling. She likes the buds even more.
Looks like I'll have to take some to dry, so she'll have her own little stash until next year!
