Having never made apple sauce from scratch and refusing to pay $5 a jar for the organic kind, I finally decided it was time. Especially when I was given the opportunity to buy bags full at a sweet, sweet price of 42¢ a kilogram!
The process is nothing fancy, nothing difficult or complicated.
Wash and peel apples, rough chop, add to pot and fill three-quarters of the way up with filtered water. Boil and then simmer covered until it all turns mushy, adding water and stirring as needed. Add sweetener of choice or none at all and then cool. Blend until smooth and eat!
Plus, if you've got one of those cool spinning apple peeler/corers then you've got no excuse to not make apple sauce at home. :)
Tank showed interest until her third sniff. Then she ran away.
More for me! The apple sauce was very good. It was a little tart, with just the right amount of sweetness. I loved the silky smooth consistency and it was even better with a couple drops of vanilla.
