I use a decent amount of hairspray and sometimes volumizing sprays to give my hair that extra oomph and leave in conditioners to keep the ends manageable and silky. Overtime, my hair gets a little sad from product build up and as a result, deflates. A couple days ago, BuzzAgent mailed me a box of Herbal Essences' new Naked products that focus on adding volume to hair to try out. Perfect timing!
Inside the box were three full sized Herbal Essences products as well as 3 each of their sample sized shampoo and conditioner. My initial impression upon opening the box was the fresh citrus-y grapefruit scent and the wonderfully clean look of the bottles.
I've used both the shampoo and the conditioner for a week now and this is what I think of them!
Paraben and silicone free, the Naked shampoo lathered up insanely well with lots of thick micro bubbles. I always love a nice lather. The scent is strong, which I enjoyed and it was refreshing, especially with the mint extract that's added in. Upon being rinse out, I noticed that my hair felt literally, squeaky clean. I dragged the tip of my finger down the back of my head and it was definitely, squeaky clean- almost to the point were my hair felt stripped of all oils. To me meant that whaever build up of hair products I had in there, were now washed down the drain.
At this point I was in despite need of conditioner.
My hair is long. Like, to the middle of my back long and I use a lot of conditioner. I normally go through an entire bottle of conditioner before I'm even half way through my shampoo! Does anyone else have this problem? With the Naked conditioner, I used the usual gigantic dollop and massaged it from root to tip and left it on my head for about two minutes. The scent got a little overwhelming at this point, as it was still strong and it began to remind me of the Ricola lemon-mint flavoured herb drop candies I used to eat as a child when I was unwell.
After rinsing well, I was happy to find my hair super silky and smooth which was obviously thanks to the silicone added in the formula. The shampoo is parabben/silicone free, the conditioner is paraben/dye free. Over all, it's a great volumizing conditioner!
Mousse is not something I use regularly, but because I wanted to use all three products from this line, to really get the full effect, I pressed out a couple golf balls of Volumizing Soufflé. Then I proceeded to work it in and around the roots of my hair. I then blew dried (first time in years!) my hair and noticed that it really was volumized!
Now- not only is my hair long, but it is pin straight and it struggles to hold a curl. I decided that since I had already use one heat device on it that I would go ahead and use another. Enter the curling iron. I curled my entire head, all my hair and practiced curling away from the face without burning the shit out of my hands/face/neck/head. It's been awhile. I let it cool then brushed it out and flung my head side to side and twirled around in front of the mirror like a little psycho.
End result? I was pleased.
I was pleased that my hair was super clean, bouncy, smelled amazingly fresh and that the curls held up for most of the day. I would totally recommend this line of products and I would repurchase the shampoo and conditioner, buying it to alternate between my other hair products. Depending on my hair routine, I may or may not purchase the soufflé. It's good, but not something I would use as regularly.
