Plump red berries are ready for pick'n! Every couple of day's I'll head out to the garden and come back with a small handful of fresh raspberries. It's such a treat! Plus, while I was out and about my totally unmaintained and weed ridden lawn, I spotted a little bun bun. Apparently he's been hanging around here quite a bit. I suspect that he's got a borrow in the bushes against my house somewhere. I haven't seen his momma anywhere though and he's still a little one! I'll occasionally sneak some fresh veggies like carrots, lettuce and parsley out for him to eat because he's just so cute! But I do it also to deter him away from my garden and two new strawberry plants. I got an ever-bearing strawberry plant and an new addition, an Alpine Strawberry (aka. wild strawberry) plant that is producing really well. See?
These were taken just after I brought them home from the garden center (Home Depot). I bought two pots at $2.49 each, on clearance and they already had red berries on them! Super fragrant and apparently packed with sweet, intense strawberry flavour. Did you catch that I said "apparently"? Well, after Rich and I got home, I took photos and placed the plants outside for a bit of sunning and to unload the rest of the groceries. I come out 10 minutes later, super excited to nosh on these cute red things, when to my horror, THEY WERE ALL GONE. Seriously, not a single on left on either plants. I thought that someone was playing some kind of joke on me, but nope. I guess a little, possibly furry, possibly feathery critter just couldn't resist the delicious smell of these petite fraises des bois and ate them before I could even get one. Boo! Fortunately they're producing really well, so I guess in a couple of days I'll have some to try myself!
P.S. We went out and bought a couple of mesh bags to put the plants in, in hopes of keeping the wild ones out. I'm selfish like that.
P.P.S. My grandpa passed away yesterday and I miss him already. I'm trying not to think about it too much, because spontaneously bursting into tears throughout the day and before bed sucks. Not only have I choked on my gum once already because I forgot to breathe, today I cried out my contact lens!
