My family and I went out to
Shoom Shoom for my dad's birthday dinner yesterday. We've passed by this restaurant numerous times as it's in our area, but never stepped foot in it to inquire. This all changed when
Groupon, offered a "buy one get one" free voucher which we bought two of for our family of four. Shoom Shoom serves up "modern middle eastern cuisine", which is something we're definitely into! We opted for the main with two sides and all you can eat soup, salad and dessert bar for $16.99.

Lentil soup: flavourful and had the right consistency. I like that it wasn't over powered by spices. |
|
Grilled vegetables: zucchini, eggplant, red and green peppers, olives, artichoke and goat cheese plate |
|
Dips and pita: tabouli, eggplant, creamy babaganoush, sundried tomato and chili paste |
|
My mom's plate, lamb skewer with rice, french fries and yogurt sauce |
|
Salad and dip: spring greens with a basil vinaigrette, marinated eggplant, babaganoush, tahini, red pepper hummus and lots of goat cheese<3 |
|
My plate with a lamb skewer, crispy sweet potato fries and rice with yogurt sauce on the side |

My dad and brother ordered the same. |
We asked for our lamb to be cooked medium-well, with just a hint of pink in the middle and it was perfect with just the right amount of char. The plates were visually appealing when they arrived, with lots of colour and textures. I liked the fact that they give you a good amount of time to enjoy the soup and salad bar before your main arrives and that we in no way felt rushed. The atmosphere was very laid back with service being quite attentive and fast, considering there was only one waitress running about a restaurant that was about 80% seated. She was friendly and made her way around the tables asking how our meals were and offering to refill our water glasses.
My only complaint would be the under seasoning of the meat. I'm not usually one to point that out as they do provide salt and pepper on the side, but I was also missing the gamey flavour of lamb. After all, that is one of the reasons as to why I ordered it over chicken or beef. It would have been nice to have a wedge of lemon on the side as well and a little more garlic in the yogurt sauce. Am I being too picky?
There was a super small dessert table, which I walked passed a few
times. It had lemon coconut squares, brownies and fresh fruit platter available.
Maybe another option or two but nothing really stuck out, except for
the fact that the fruit had been picked over and not replenished and I
was just way too full to take a sample of anything else! Now I'm kind of regretting not taking a bite of the lemon coconut square. I love those two flavours!
Overall, Shoom Shoom is a nice place to have a simple sit down dinner. If
Groupon were to have another buy one get one deal, I'd go back. But I don't think I'd return without a sweet deal, only because a large portion of the meal consists of eating carbs, whether it be rice, potatoes, toasts or pita bread. Now, now, I LOVE CARBS! But I don't like paying $17+tax and tip for it as dinner. Sure one wouldn't
have to eat all that bread, but what the heck are you going to eat all those delicious dips and marinated vegetables with?! Those things need a vehicle into the tummy, aka. bread.
