Happy Chinese New Year and welcome to the year of the snake! To celebrate, my family and went to dinner at Sam Woo Seafood Restaurant (my grandmother's favourite place) this past Saturday. The food is always consistent and the service is overwhelmingly friendly and attentive. Oh, the perks of being regular customers! Being that it was the Chinese holiday of the year, the restaurant was filled to the brim. They stuffed more tables into the dining area than usual so yes, while it was a little cramped, there was a pleasant atmosphere being that it was totally bustling and full of happy people!
Here's a look at what was on our menu.
Crispy roasted pork on a bed of marinated jellyfish salad
Dried scallops, oysters and black moss with cabbage in a savory seafood sauce
Stir fried shrimp and yu-choy greens
A bowl of crab and shark fin soup, with a spoon of red vinegar
Baby bok choy adorned with whole abalone and abalone sauce
Stir fried crabs with soy, ginger, garlic and scallions
Steamed fish with garlic, parsley and green onions served with sweet soy sauce
Deep fried pigeon served with salt and lemon
Chinese egg noodles in broth with yu-choy and ham
Steamed sticky rice mix with bits of Chinese sausage and shredded egg
