A couple weekends ago, Rich and I headed off to
St. Jacobs with his friend Ed. He was looking to get a coffee table custom made by people in the Mennonite community. Our day started off at 7:30am, well...more like 6:30am for me, because I like to do the hair and make up thing. Ha!
We made a couple of pit stops along the way, one of them included was
Grype's Bakery. They make, hands down, the best bagels ever. I could eat 5 of them in one sitting! Anyways, Ed ran in quickly to grab a couple of apple cinnamon pastries for us, along with some other goodies, including half a dozen bagels that he treated me to. Yummy!

Yummy ruggelah! |
After munching, I took a nap. Surprised much!? I was in a mini morning sugar coma! :)
Soon enough we arrived in St. Jacobs where we parked and roamed around.

One of the "must haves" here, was the apple fritters. |
|
The line up was out the door, so we joined in. |

Finally! After about 10-15 minutes in the chilly breeze, we're inside and ready to order. |

They used this neat little machine to peel, core and cut their apples into rings |

The fry station, where the apple rings get dipped in batter and deep fried until golden! |

Voila! All that waiting was worth it. Check out this awesome piece of fried goodness! |

The innards- fresh piece of apple, crunchy coating, covered in cinnamon sugar, served piping hot! |
To be honest, I didn't expect my apple fritter to be like this. I'm more accustomed to my apple fritters being more like a donut, with chunks of apples in it and glazed! The kind that's more dough than apple, the kind you get from your local coffee/donut shop. This was different, but GOOD different!
I'm glad I only bought one ($1.25) because holy cow, was it ever good. Greasy and a bit heavy but tasty. Kind of makes me think I could make something like this at home...uh oh!

The were slathered in different flavoured frostings. Ed bought one and I had a piece. We both agreed that it was WAY too sweet and we've both had better. |

Fresh produce |

Fresh strawberries in October! They were tastier than the grocery store stuff. The baskets are adorable. |

Fresh squeezed juices |
There's going to be an over use of the word FRESH, because that's what it is. It was like food heaven!

Pretzels |

Canned goods- there must have hundreds if different relishes, pickled goods and preserves! |

An look down at the vendor selling canned goodies. They also had a ridiculous amount of pies! |
Seeing as it was Thanksgiving weekend, it was extra busy. There were lots of people getting pies, sweets, produce and groceries for their holiday dinner. It was non-stop and bustling. I loved it there!
I'm totally inspired to make some of my own apple fritters.
