I'm here to review Orange Naturals ND Shake for Women. I was mailed a package about a month ago and even though I'm not one for powdered supplements, I decided to give it a try. After all, it's made from good for you things like plant protein (soy free), super fruits, vegetables and greens along with vitamins and other goodies aimed for women's health.
I decided to make my shake with a scoop of powder, frozen blueberries and raspberries, topped off with unsweetened coconut milk.
After a quick buzz in the Magic Bullet, my shake was ready and it was a nice rich mauve colour.
While the colour was nice, the flavour was an entirely different story as was the texture.
I think Tank's expression tells it all.
The shake was THICK, like I had trouble drinking it down. It may have to do with the frozen fruits in it, but I use them all the time in smoothies and this was a whole other monster. There was something almost slimy about it and I chalk it up to the psyllium husk and guar gum. Not pleasant.
Let's talk about the flavour. It's supposed to be french vanilla and it kind, sorta was, except that all those healthy for your body ingredients totally overpowered it. That resulted in a super earthy and not at all delicious shake. Although the ingredients list xylitol and stevia as sweeteners, it was undetectable. I think that a whole lot of apple powder or something similar would help in that area.
The texture was gritty and chalky. I gagged. That's all I'll say about that.
Overall, meh.
Like a trooper (more like, refusing to waste all the berries), I chugged the rest down holding my breath, chased it with a handful of cashews and convinced myself that
1. I will feel full for a longer period of time
2. I now have super powers running through my veins
3. I will be super energized for the rest of the day
I did not, however have to convince myself to never drink this mud powder again.
1 out of 5 stars. I can't deny that there are healthy for you
ingredients in this Orange Naturals product. If you don't mind drinking
vanilla scented forest muck, are looking for a vegan alternative and
paying around $32.00CDN for 500g, buy it.
You'd have to add a whole lot of maple syrup and cocoa powder in my shake it you're going to have me try it again.
As mentioned above, this was a complimentary item mailed to me for review. All opinions are my own.
