The End of Summer

Afternoon Tea with Rich's mum and family at the Fairmont Royal York. Super late post- we went back in August! But the food was way too pretty not to post, so better late than never.

Sandwiches, pastries and tea galore followed by pool hang outs and dinner. A good way to end off the season! Thanks Fern!!

Thanksgiving 2016

Thanksgiving dinner this year was super, super casual. We had it at my parent's super small, I mean cozy apartment and it was just the immediate family. I prepped everything but the turkey over at Rich's place (where I live now !!!) and basically catered dinner over there. All the sides and desserts were cooked and prepared on Sunday, so when it came down to turkey day, all there was to do was warm the sides in the oven and roast the bird.

Canada Day at Milliken Park

Rich and I didn't have any official plans for Canada Day, but after a phone call from one of his friends who suggested heading out to a park not too far from home to watch fireworks, we decided to do just that. After all, our country's turning 149 and that something to celebrate! We loafed around at home until the late afternoon, then headed out for a vegetarian feast of noodles, noodles and more noodles at The Buddhist Vegetarian Kitchen.

After dinner, we drove to Milliken Park. I wanted to get there early to get a parking spot and to scope the area out. I was happy to see there were police officers everywhere- they were so nice and one was quite babely. (!!!) It was one of the chillier nights, actually it was really frick'n cold. A campfire would have been amazing! We brought camping chairs and two blankets to huddle around and I loaded up on bug spray, but it wasn't necessary- there wasn't a mosquito to be found. Brr!!

Adulting-ish

Spring flew by and it's now officially summer.
I've moved in with Richard! I'm working full time and cherish my weekends more than ever and haven't been this deeply in love with going to bed early since forever. I am behind on Game of Thrones, though not by much (actually, only one episode) and I've started season one of Shameless. I want to binge watch it, but there just isn't time.

My weekdays consist of waking up in the actual morning (no more sleeping in!), getting my face and hair done, get dressed, maybe sneak in a quick breakfast, fill my giant bottle with ice cubes/water and another with chilled black tea ('cause I am obsessed with staying hydrated) and then getting to work on time, so I can open the studio. Then I work for eight hours like a normal person and head home afterwards to pig out, because I am totally ravenous by then so hopefully there's left overs. If there aren't, that means I get to make dinner with Rich. We also get to pack lunches for the next day. We'll watch an episode or two (maybe three if we're feeling rebellious) of something and we start getting ready for bed at 11PM, so I can fall asleep by 12:15AM and call it a night.

Somewhere during the week I'll do my nails and get all scary with charcoal clay face masks or a honey treatment, read a book from the public library, or just internet. Like I am now.

Weekends mean grocery shopping and running errands. But, I get to sleep in (!!!) and yes I still find time browse flyers, use coupons and price match. $20 a week on groceries that include meat, produce and staples like bread and eggs, not bad. Sundays are usually home days and with the weather being so sweltering hot, we spend it by the pool a lot of the time. I need to get some bronze on my stems.  They're currently covered in bruises from running into heavy duty storage totes repeatedly. We grill a lot of the time, and I grill lots of extra veggies (eggplants, zucchini, seasonal stuff) to make pasta salad for work lunches.

So, that's that.
Small photo dump. I'm still around!

And Then There Were Deer

The ice and snow have melted away giving way to spring growth. Rich and I took a stroll down the ravine and spotted some friendlies munching away at new grass.

Wintery Spring

So, the weather in Toronto has been quite fun with highs of 15°C one day and beautiful ice storms the next!

The Buddhist Vegetarian Kitchen

This small, hole in the wall-ish place in Scarborough serves up some delicious vegetarian/vegan food. Rich and I discovered it one day while doing random Google searches online and upon having dined there twice in a week, we were left wondering how had we never been here before.

6 Weeks Fresh

Earlier this month I finally got to meet this little bundle of perfection! Her name is Amaris- first child of my best friend, Miriam. Isn't she just the cutest? Such a cute baby. Between feeding time, changing diapers and napping, I was able to take a couple quick photos. Take a peek!

Vegan Strawberry Red Velvet Cake

I'll take any excuse to bake a cake and Valentine's Day was no exception. Being totally unoriginal, I decided on a deep red velvet cake, strawberries, finished off with fluffy pink vanilla frosting and a festive blend of sprinkles.
Recipe and photos after the cut!

Valentine's Day Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

It's been awhile since my last blog post. Nearly three months! Yikes.

Basically what happened was my computer decided to poop out and between getting a new one and getting all my files, setting up my programs etc etc... I just wasn't taking photos. Fast forward to now, I've got my Lightroom and Photoshop CS6 up and running (I refuse to pay Adobe's monthly subscription) and everything got backed up all proper. Excite!

So on to the cookies. I have a super adorable cousin named Katie and we've been spending some time together 'cause her family's awesome. As Valentine's Day is coming up, I just had to whip up a batch of sugar cookies decorated with royal frosting for the occasion.
I used my go to low fat recipe, which is a total winner.
