Nursing a Sickling

Tank somehow developed two "hot spots" on her back and her Pemphigus Folliculitis (auto-immune disorder of the hair follicle) has flared up again due to her body trying to get things back to normal. It's a hard job, but we're seeing results. After a visit to the vet and an antibiotic injection, her skin has calmed down quite a lot.

We're on a feeding, cleaning and medicating schedule. She's got an e-collar on to protect herself from damaging her skin and I've been syringe feeding her a blended up mixture of wet food, kibble and high calorie cat/kitten formula. She's eating it up like a champ, but in small potions. That means her feedings have to be more often. In between meals she gets syringe fed water to keep hydrated and lots of treats. It's been about two weeks and time flies. It came to a point where I didn't even know what day of the week it was!

Tank recently started to eat her kibble and drink from her bowl unassisted, which is a good sign. I still feed her by hand. I'm paranoid about her going hungry or thirsty and even more so as to how her insides would react. I can't stand picking her up and feeling skin and bones. Feeding is every three-four hours.

She still lays around a lot and sleeps, which is fine. The fur/crusts on her ears have started to come off, as it did in her previous two Phemphigus episodes. The last time, I thought she was going to die. I feel differently this time. We caught it early. We'll probably be visiting the Dr. in a week for an update, wish us luck.

Oh and I decided to cut my claws into something more usable! See those up there? They are no more. Until Tank gets better and I no longer have to feed her, wash a million towels and cloths and slather medication on her skin, I'll be keeping them short. I'll be honest though, I can type so much faster now. :P

Canadian Butter Tarts

I've been wondering why I've never made my own butter tarts before. I've surely gone to the grocery store and purchased half a dozen in the past, resisting to not devour the entire box once I got home; but after watching the Canadian women's hockey team kick ass in the last few minutes of the third period and winning in overtime, I was inspired. Inspired to bake deliciousness. Look, they're sweet, rich, butter and melt in your mouth. Who could resist?

The best part is, it's ridiculously simple to make and you probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen.

Lazy Girl Chicken Spaghetti

Here's another Lazy Girl Dinner "recipe". It's made in a single pot (okay- two pots including the one used to boil water for the pasta), there are minimal dishes to clean up and you basically shove it in the oven and wait 45 minutes. What you decide to do in those minutes is up to you, but in my case I chose to edit photos and blog.

The chicken breasts have no chance of drying out since it's cooked in the sauce, which in turn infuses it with deliciousness. If you can turn an oven on and boil water, this recipe is for you- even if there aren't any measurements or real precise directions. Just look at the pictures!

Start off by dicing a medium onion into small bits. If you don't like onions, omit it or use less.

Christmas New Year Dinner

I nearly forgot to post about our 2013 Christmas dinner, which was so delayed thanks to the Toronto ice storm and black out, became more like a New Year's Eve dinner. Everything that was planned dissapeared and I basically winged it. There were five people at dinner unlike pervious years and although the meal was delicious, it just wasn't the same. The Christmas spirit was lacking and overall not impressive/I was not impressed. Here are some simple and not so enthusiastic shots!
